Erin
Elizabeth Orchard was a quiet baby, which was the determining factor in how she
got her name. Nameless for a few days
after birth, her parents discovered that when she cried, her cries were silent,
and so they decided to call her Erin, which means peace in Gaelic. Despite the
fact that they were not Irish, the name fit.
When she was a little girl, she dreamed of being a landscape architect.
That idea has since been scrapped, and now multiple futures float about in her
mind, but no concrete path has been chosen.
An unusual quality about Erin is that she has a general dislike of
animals. Not even the fuzzy panda bear or the cuddly koala brings a smile to
her face. The only acceptable animal is
the colorful Toucan.
Not
one for sitting around, she fills her free time with activities like running,
skiing, figure skating, and playing lacrosse. She is on club teams of lacrosse
and figure skating here at DU. She
prefers these more active hobbies instead of reading and watching television.
Her other favorites include chicken of any kind and cheesecake, particularly
with fresh strawberries or raspberries. She took an honors writing class last quarter
on Pop Culture, and her favorite paper in that course was an analysis she wrote
about Mickey and Minnie Mouse. She got to explore the history and culture
surrounding these two beloved characters, which she enjoyed. Finally, here at DU, she is a member of the
Tri Delta sorority.
